Autumn festivals in Korea: choose by date, region and your journey home

A lantern evening, a regional food festival or a royal-culture event can become the best part of a trip. Start with the date you are actually in Korea.

A short list for October and November 2026

The dates below are listed in the Korea Tourism Organization’s 2026 autumn festival guide, checked on 9 October 2026. This is a shortlist for planning, not a live schedule. Confirm the organiser’s programme before booking non-refundable travel.

FestivalListed 2026 datesPlanning focus
Suwon Hwaseong Festival4–11 OctoberA cultural event to consider from a Seoul base
Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival3–18 OctoberLanterns: plan the overnight stay or late return first
Sunchang Jangryu Festival15–18 OctoberA regional food-focused excursion
Gwangju Kimchi Festival23–25 OctoberFood culture, with time for the surrounding city
Gumi Ramyun Festival6–8 NovemberA November option rather than an October assumption

For an arrival later in October, Suwon’s listed festival period will have finished. The fortress can still be a destination, but it is a different promise from attending the event.

VISITKOREA: autumn festivals in 2026 ↗

Choose a festival that belongs in your route

Put the festival location on your route before adding it to the calendar. If your accommodation is in Seoul, ask whether the attraction warrants the intercity travel and whether the timing leaves a comfortable return. For an evening event, an overnight stay nearby may be a more enjoyable choice than an anxious dash to the last connection.

A regional food event can work well when you already want to visit that part of Korea. It is less useful as a long detour for a single snack. Think of the festival as the main half-day or evening and keep the surrounding itinerary light.

Five details that a festival photograph cannot tell you

  1. The exact programme: the overall dates do not mean every performance runs every day.
  2. Admission: free entry to an area does not necessarily include workshops, seats or paid experiences.
  3. Booking access: check language, account and overseas-payment requirements for the specific ticket.
  4. Weather changes: outdoor performances may be changed or cancelled.
  5. The way home: crowds, road management and local connections affect the last part of the journey.

If a detail is not confirmed on the organiser’s current notice, leave it flexible. We have not verified foreign-card acceptance for the individual events listed above and do not label them universally bookable from overseas.

Make the night visit comfortable

Save an agreed meeting point that is not the busiest gate. Carry enough phone battery for your ticket and the trip home. If travelling with children, choose an earlier departure from the event rather than assuming everyone will enjoy the peak crowd.

For food festivals, ask about ingredients rather than judging from an English dish name alone. Keep room in the budget for food and optional activities without treating every vendor price as a fixed event admission charge.

After the dates pass

Do not use this 2026 shortlist to book a later year. Follow the official links for the next announced programme. If your trip misses an event, choose an everyday destination instead: a palace day in Seoul, a fortress walk in Suwon or time in Jeonju does not need a festival to be worthwhile.
